I have always been fascinated by others; learning about what makes them tick, empathizing with their inner world, meeting them where they are, and supporting them to thrive – to achieve their deepest capabilities. In a world that often advocates for self-interest and comparing achievements, I believe in the revolutionary power of lifting others up, celebrating their successes without jealousy, and encouraging one another in all of our humanity.
From a young age, I’ve been drawn to the archetype of the wise person, the sage – surrounded by the wonders of nature, contemplating the mysteries of the universe. This burning passion to understand myself, and others, and how to be in the world – this has always been a part of me. This drive intensified due to the challenges I faced dealing with my parents’ divorce and my prolonged bullying until the middle of high school. It is no surprise that the wisdom of the Buddha’s noble truths resonated with me, particularly the first truth: “life has suffering.” Still, it took time for me to learn that there are ways to reduce and even end suffering, and to realize that there are methods to achieve that. During my struggles, I often felt unaccepted – that I didn’t belong – trying to cope with my intense emotions without a framework or cultural tradition to make sense of my circumstances.
In search of guidance, I began reading everything I could find. My journey led me first to the great traditions of the East, where Buddhism, the Tao and Vedanta offered meditation and mindfulness practices that helped me to calm myself, and to focus and direct my mind. Then, I found the philosophical giants of the West—Socrates, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius—whose teachings provide invaluable insights for navigating the modern world. These perspectives, combined with an in-depth study of psychology, helped me form a pragmatic approach to mental health and wellness, grounded in a modern scientific worldview.
Now, in the fourth decade of my life, having endured some of life’s hardest challenges, the methods and insights I offer have been practiced, tested, and annealed in the crucible of life under very difficult circumstances. They continue to support me through my storms, and I’ve witnessed them help countless people reach calm shores beyond turbulent seas. I am well-poised to guide and support you on this journey of self-discovery. Together, we can learn, heal, grow, and overcome the obstacles in your life to reach your full potential.
